My favourite mistakes

27 June 2011

I love editing. I love making sure a text is clear; playing with words to ensure that what is being said is what was intended; fiddling with commas to change the meaning of a sentence. The English language is complex and that makes it fun.

My favourite errors are those that change the meaning of a sentence. When the “duel heroines” go on their journey… I can’t help but laugh at the image of drugs fighting rather than two female heroes going on a quest. (more…)

Day 1 Gluten-free … almost

25 June 2011

My first day going gluten-free started off well.  A great breakfast, a great lunch – feeling better already – and then the birthday party for a two-year-old. I learned a few things. (more…)

Gonna try it gluten-free

23 June 2011

I am embarking on a 30 day gluten-free trial starting Sunday.  I’m debating adding sugar-free to it as well. But what will be left to eat? I currently live on bread and pasta and fruit.

Perhaps that’s the problem. (more…)

Just write it already

20 June 2011

As a teacher I taught my students to make a plan before they started writing. Create an outline, make a thought web, doodle a picture, something to get the creative juices flowing and keep you on the right track. Now, as a writer, I seldom take my own advice. (more…)

Diaper free living

18 June 2011

My son was fully potty trained at two. Ok, one week before his third birthday, but at two none the less. My daughter is now 20 months and has been ready for some time. Mommy is now ready too. Yesterday I re-entered the potty training arena. I forgot how much it sucked. (more…)

Does mom guilt ever end?

18 June 2011

Working from home was great. For the most part I was able to work around my kids sleep/ activity schedules and be both mom and contractor. Then I became the primary breadwinner. I loved the challenges, the adult conversations, the mental focus, the use of my training as I worked full time, and yet I missed my kids.

Now that my contract is done I’m faced with another dilemma – what to do next. (more…)

The wrong way to start a blog (or how I should have done it in the first place).

17 June 2011

An entry here, an entry there - for the past few years. I keep trying to start a blog and then life takes over.  I know it is good for business. I know it is an essential tool in our Social Media world, yet I can’t seem to find the time to write regularly.

The problem is that I failed to take my own suggestion and systematize the whole thing. (more…)

Can I learn to run like my kids?

15 June 2011

When we learn to run it is an adventure.  Speed opens up more territory to our never ending exploration.  My 19-month-old daughter is now running, not always gracefully, but always with a giggle.  My four-year-old son loves to run and to be chased – he turns everything into a race.

I so much want to learn how to run like my kids. (more…)

The Write Blog is Born

13 June 2011

I wear so many hats (like everyone else), but my two biggest are Editor/Teacher and Wife/Mother. My muses are those in my crazy, fabulous, busy, blessed, but often challenging life… and the grammatically challenged all around me.
